Hey there everyone! I just wanted to wish you all a Happy Holidays and a great New Year!
It doesn't sound like things have been very active with the club lately, but it's not in my hands anymore, so make sure to harass Urza if you guys want more events and meetings. He's the president now, so make sure to tell him what you want the club to do, but don't forget that he'll need your help to make it happen.
Have a great break, and good luck with the upcoming semester!

I really shouldn't be posting this on here, because doing so only gives more attention to what will surely be an unholy abomination of our beloved game. But alas, I am weak.
For your (non)enjoyment, I present to you Kotaku's article with images from DDR: The Musical.

I found two more local news articles today. Both were published before many of us came to WSU or UI, and even I don't recognize any of the people in them. But still, they're an entertaining read. Feel free to check them out.

I've decided to add these and the other bemani related articles to the links page. Now you can check them out at anytime.

There is some debate over the when DDR truly debuted, but from what I've read, I'm going to say that November 21st marks the 10 year anniversary for Dance Dance Revolution.
The game has come a long way since the original DDR, and has spawned dozens of home version ports. Maybe you all can go by the arcade and play one set of 20, November, 1998, then Dance Dance Revolution to celebrate.
Just for fun, you should check out the track list on the first DDR arcade game. It had a whopping 11 songs, including Butterfly, Paranoia, and Trip Machine. My how times have changed.

There have been rumors circulating over at Bemani Style about this for a while, but here's some solid news for you on the official Guitar Hero arcade game.
the game will be "a modified version of Guitar Hero III" running on PC hardware, and the guitars will look like the new World Tour peripherals, but be built more in line with Konami's Guitar Freaks controller standards. So, yeah, indestructible guitars. In addition, online play will be supported, along with the possibility of online song updates.
That's the gist of it. If you want more info, go to the source on Kotaku's page.

I posted a link to a very useful tool that does everything needed to take a StepMania song and convert it to play on an ITG 2 machine running r21. It can convert to .ogg format, boost the volume of the file, and ogg length patch it so you can play songs longer than 2 min. It's really the best all-in-one tool for those looking to play custom songs on ITG2 (if the local machine ever gets up and working again).
Check out the SM2ITG Converter at the bottom of the links page.

Sorry for such a long wait to come up with anything... I've been sick for 3 weeks or so and generally haven't felt like doing much of anything in that time span. I'm still thinking about hosting a get-together for anyone who is interested, where we just bring our own stuff and play for a few hours. Weekends have the best chance of working for me, but Tuesday afternoon/night would work as well. Probably nothing will happen until after Thanksgiving, but just so you know I haven't forgotten about y'all quite yet.
Oh, and post to the forum if you have any comments about this!

Oh dear God...I wish I were making this up, but to the best of my knowledge it's true.
Apperantly a DDR musical is in the works. I seriously doubt that this is being targeted at us, the core gamer group. Still, it's DDR news, so I'm giving it to you, whether you want it or not.
"It's set in an Orwellian society where a dance prophet named Moonbeam Funk helps dancing youth gangs rebel against a fascist government. The company working on the show describes it as "like Footloose set in the future - but kind of scarier, and with 40 really attractive, barely-clothed young actors and buckets of free beer."
Moonbeam Funk, 'nuff said.

Hello again,
There was not a big turnout at the meeting (5 of us), and one new member joining us, so there wasn't much to go over. Here's a recap:
There is still no word on the ITG machine at Mingles. I went today and they had the machine turned off so I assume it's still broken. There is still the DDR machine at Bumpers in the mall, and another slightly better DDR machine at Zeppoz in Pullman. If anyone wants to play and wants some company, post on the chat board on this site, and maybe someone else wants to play.
We should be having a full-bore bemani night some time, but I don't see it happening soon. I suggested perhaps deciding on a night and a place to get together every other week and play for 2 to 3 hours. I will also talk to the SRC about starting up a program they had 3 years ago in which every Thursday and Friday night was "DDR night" and they hooked up a playstation to the big screen for 2 hours. If you have any comments on these ideas, post them in the chat board! I was thinking Friday or Saturday nights for the get-togethers.
As for equipment currently available, we have 2 PS2s, a computer, about 6 DDR pads, Guitar hero (1 or 2 controllers... I'm not sure), and that's about it. Those of you who enjoyed last year's bemani nights and tried some of the other games, if Taiko Drum Beat or Beatmania were fun, we could put some money together and get the equipment we need for those again.
It could also be fun to coordinate an event with the Video Game Club on campus, which I hear does a lot of Guitar Hero anyways. We could make fools of ourselves at their games, they could stumble over DDR, and it would all be great. More on that later.
Remember to come back this site every once in a while for updates or to see what people are posting on the chat board!

I've reserved the room and everything, so the meeting this Friday should be a go. It will be in the Sawtooth room in the SUB, the same one as we have been using before, at 6:00 and I have it reserved until 7:00 just in case, but I hope it won't take that long! Note that the meeting IS on Friday, October 24, to amend my error in the email message.
This weekend I'll try to make up a little poster that we can put around campus to advertise.
See you guys around, and hopefully at the meeting!
